Archaic Forms

Picture
This body of work is a response to the mystique of the natural world and the artifacts that man has left behind.   I sculpt glass into forms resembling bones, writhing horns, roots, man-made tools, vessels, and other objects that serve as markers for time.  The patina of age suggests a history that is slowly deteriorating, becoming lost, and returning to the earth.

As a society in a rapidly evolving age of technological advancement it is easy to overlook the lessons and achievements of our past.  The subjects of my work are decidedly rustic in nature yet modern in their presentation and form, suggesting a resurgence of the past.  As an artist I am interested in capturing the mystery and power that these forms convey rather than divining the whole picture as an archeologist might.  It is the ambiguity of what these objects may represent that inspires my work.
